Building Program
Teams of dedicated trade’s people have travelled to Vanuatu and Africa, and have committed to building classrooms, amenities and essential facilities. Local men and women are trained by the trade’s people during the building process. You can be a part of a building team by participating in a building trip or by giving into the building programme.
Local village members are encouraged to participate in the Evidence building programs, and use this time as valuable training in building and carpentry skills. Many of the materials are purchased in Vanuatu, making the cost of one classroom approximately $25,000AUD. However, desks and chairs still need to be shipped over.
Survival School Building Program
The Survival School Vanuatu is located at Freshwater, which is in a poor area about 20 minutes drive from the centre of Port Vila. In May 2008, 2 more Classrooms were built at the Survival School bringing the total to 7 classrooms. Other essential facilities have also been funded and built by Evidence. At present there are over 250 students in the school. As the school grows, Evidence is keen to add more classrooms, to enable more under privileged children in this area access to affordable education.
Seaside Village School Building Program
The Seaside Community School Vanuatu is attached to a large slum village very close to the centre of Port Vila.
In September 2008 a building team from Citipointe Church Brisbane joined Evidence and commenced the building of an entire new school. The project they undertook comprised of 4 classrooms, a toilet block, a school office, and a small caretaker’s house.
Evidence intends to construct at least 1 extra classroom each year, to enable the kids to be educated through to a grade 12 level at this school.
Rwanda Building
In the latter half of 2008, a small team of people representing Evidence took a trip to Rwanda where they helped with building some of the homes under construction for widows and orphans within the Hope Village in Rwanda.
